History

1978

Friday Prayers were conducted at the International Office at the University of Dayton.

1979

Friday Halaqa was started at an apartment on Wilmington Avenue. Friday Prayers Continued at the University of Dayton.

1980

Muslim Student Association (MSA), Dayton Chapter, was established at 121 Fairground Street Dayton, Ohio. A house was rented; daily & Friday (Jummah) Prayers and other activities -including Friday Dinners and lectures- were started.

1985

The church, located at 26 Josie Street, was bought and remodeled. It became the Islamic Center of Dayton (ICD). Since then, ICD has served the Muslims in the Greater Dayton Area, and hosted many projects such as:

  • Founding of the Islamic Council of Greater Dayton which resulted in the Founding of the Islamic Council of Ohio
  • Establishing the Islamic cemetery
  • Hosted many ISNA Conventions
  • Hosted MAYA Convention
  • Founding of the Dayton Islamic School
